Wedding at Vaulty Manor, Maldon
At a recent wedding I was booked for at Vaulty Manor in Maldon, close-up magic helped bring guests together and get them talking during the drinks reception.
With around 60 guests, the couple wanted everyone to feel relaxed. As the two families came together, many guests hadn’t met before, making the drinks reception the perfect opportunity to create a shared and welcoming atmosphere.
As I moved between small groups, guests began calling over friends and family who were walking past. Small groups quickly became larger ones, naturally encouraging more people to stop, watch and join in.
One memorable moment came when a guest thought he had worked out exactly how one of my card routines would end. Confident he knew what was coming, he watched closely, only to discover the ending was completely different. His reaction was even stronger because he genuinely believed he had worked it out.
By the time the bride and groom returned from their photographs, the atmosphere was exactly what they had hoped for. Guests were chatting, laughing and already sharing positive feedback about the entertainment. I also performed a personalised routine for the couple, leaving them with a unique keepsake from their wedding day that they still have today, followed by a lovely five-star review after the event.

50th Birthday party entertainment at The Queens Head, West Bergholt
At a recent 50th birthday celebration at The Queens Head in West Bergholt, Essex, I helped entertain guests while allowing the host to enjoy her own event.
Guests were relaxing, catching up and enjoying the afternoon together. With around 40 to 50 friends and family attending, there was a mixture of different ages, with some family members who hadn't seen each other for years.
The host wanted entertainment that would complement the celebration naturally while she caught up with different groups. The magic allowed guests in other areas to stay entertained and enjoy something memorable together.
Rather than moving guests away from their conversations, I moved around the pub and performed where people were already relaxing. This allowed each group to enjoy the experience at their own pace, with plenty of laughter and lots of questions.
A couple of guests were particularly interested in magic, as their father used to be a magician. They enjoyed trying to work out how I performed the tricks while also appreciating the skill involved. I even taught them a simple card trick, the first one I ever learned, which created another memorable moment and showed how the entertainment can adapt to the people in front of me.
One of the highlights was performing at a new table, where one guest I had already entertained joined in again, still trying to work out how the magic was possible while enjoying watching his daughter experience the reactions for herself.
I also created a personalised framed playing card keepsake featuring messages from the birthday guest's family, giving them something meaningful to remember the occasion by.
The host shared her appreciation on the day, and the event received fantastic feedback afterwards.
